In 2014–15, Ashley was a lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland, teaching fourth-year degree students within the School of Cultural and Creative Industries. His instructional portfolio encompassed on-screen presentation techniques, communication styles, interview strategies and the arts of documentary filmmaking, spanning scriptwriting to the practical aspects of filming.

The School of Media, Culture & Society served as the academic arena wherein the intersections of social sciences and the creative and cultural industries were explored. Within this academic context, faculty and students were dedicated to cultivating a center of educational excellence in media, culture, and societal studies, fostering knowledge creation, scholarly exchange, and innovative creative practices.
